Miles, My apologies, I completely misunderstood the implementation of what was desired and was a bit off the mark (I should pay more attention to the complete thread). Muzak is absolutely correct (Kudos!). The solution he's indicated actually casts a function call further down the inheritance chain to the label component contained in the textarea derived component itself. IIRC, wouldn't matter if it's marked public or private, that's for compile time reference only - everything (unfortunately) runtime has 'public' scope. Just thought I'd chime in with my additional $0.03 (adjusted for inflation in our paper economy)...
Hope this helps... -- Dok Skyymap Inc. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Muzak Sent: Thursday, November 03, 2005 8:09 AM To: Flashcoders mailing list Subject: Re: [Flashcoders] RE:txtNews.selectable = false NOT taking SOLVED. .label is the actual textfield within a TextArea component (and TextInput component as well if I'm not mistaken). Since it has not been set as a private member, you can access it directly. Whether this was intended, one can only guess.. but looking at other class members I'd say they *forgot*. regards, Muzak ----- Original Message ----- From: "Miles Thompson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Flashcoders mailing list" <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, November 03, 2005 1:50 PM Subject: [Flashcoders] RE:txtNews.selectable = false NOT taking SOLVED. > > Scott, > > Apologies, apologies, apologies. Before I post a question on any list I try a lot of stuff, read > docs, check archives, etc. I did not see ".label".
