If you get a better definition on activated... If you have a page on the server that requires a certificate to be provided by the client the web browser will auto-accept valid certficates from major certificate signers (Thawte, Versign etc..). If the certificate is expired or invalid or the URL doesn't match it the customer will be informed by the web browser and have the option to proceed or not.
