Hi All A few months ago my employer announced publicly that it was shifting all future development to an offshore partner. Since then I've been slowly putting my feelers out and applying for the occassional job that stood out as being a "good" fit. Unfortunately things have begun to spiral a bit faster in the past few days with a larger reorganization of remaining work force (including myself) into potentially dead end jobs. As such, while I still have a job for the time being, I really need to get out and find something new that fits my personal goals.
Ideally at this time, I'd like to return to Canada (I'm Canadian working in the US on an H1B Visa) or find a new position in the south end of the Twin Cities (would need to sponsor VISA). I would consider other areas of the US but again would require someone to sponsor my work VISA. My wife has all but ruled out most of the southern most states (doesn't like hurricanes I guess) as well as California (afraid of earthquakes). I have to admit I'm not much of a big city person, preferring to stay away from heavy metropolitan type areas if possible. I'd be most interested in western Canada, or Ontario (especially northern Ontario and/or the Ottawa region) but away from Toronto (unless telecommuting is an option). I am married and have four kids so I am concerned with stability and long term commitment. I have solid programming skills in both Flash and Director and a good handle on the C#.NET and have done a lot of work with MS SQL Server 2000 (SQL language and stored procs etc). I've done some ASP/ASP.NET, PHP etc but don't consider myself an HTML guru. I've been working in the e-Learning industry for quite some time and wouldn't mind the opportunity to branch out and get into a slightly different line of work doing web applications, mobile and/or game development. I'd like to think I am a decent architect but have no formal training in that field. I'm a fairly fast study and can get up to speed fairly quickly in areas where I may not have a lot of experience and/or formal training. I've been a speaker at the past two Macromedia MAX conferences on the topic of using Flash and Director together, written several articles on the same topic. I've also done some technical reviewing of a couple of Flash books for O'Reilly press, participated on some Flash and Director Betas. If you know of anyone looking for a talented and solid programmer with Flash and/or Director skills who also has solid C# and SQL skills then send em my way. Thank you and sorry for the OT and of course please reply offlist to me directly. Sincerely Mark R.
