Sorry to tell you Claus.. but the answer is no. There isn't any way currently to get any kind of return from your upload script (other then the events the FileRef object throws)
Most implimentations I've seen have a second script that is called when the upload completes (to fetch a file list or whatever) Maybe they'll fix it for 8.5..
