I just tried it on my players as well as in Safari (Mac) as well as Firefox (PC) and it works fine (8.0.22). I'm wondering if there's an issue with your player, as I encountered the same situation with a wonky player with another person.

I don't see anything overly peculiar with your code, although I usually attach the BitmapData object to a different level in the MC.
