You don't need an xtra in Director to do this: the getNthFileNameInFolder function will tell you. As for Flash, not as far as I'm aware of, but you could use something like swfStudio to embed the Flash file and gain access to those functions (haven't used swfStudio in a while so I can't say how well it works with current Flash versions)
