I'd forget Flash for the minute and look at regular tools that give you the info you're after. Once you have that, you'll need to look at ways to get at the data. I would look at command line tools, I'd write some ColdFusion to use these and then write the output of using these tools to XML for Flash to read.
A bit rough around the edges but I'd say it's more than doable.
