Hi List,

I'm shooting outdoor segments with a 3-chip Sony Vx1000 Pal camera. When the scenery is complex, for example lots of leaves, the full-screen image is still fairly ok at MiniDV compression ratios. With exports to 240x180 FLVs from Quicktime and Sorenson Squeeze (smoothing enabled), I'm seeing large discontinuous blocks, especially in areas with plenty of saturated green. I think this is a combination of the CDD 4.2.0 encoding, the DV compression, and the Flash FLV compression.

Interestingly, the blockiness "pops on" a split second after the video starts. I've tested 360 and 1000 kbs and the result is the same. The video is viewable at http://www.xyris.ca/index.php?id=naturevideo and the "log" video has the most obvious 'checkerboard' artifacts.

Any advice or war stories from the list?

Thanks!
