perm/item has no children with 'name' attributes. It has no children at all...

ok, been banging my head against a wall for ages on this one.

These lines of code work:

menu_root = XPath.selectNodes(this, "root/menu/item/@name");
trace('menu_root: ' + menu_root);

These don't:

perm_items = Xpath.selectNodes(this, "root/perm/item/@name");
trace('perm_items: ' + perm_items);

The trace returns undefined.

Here is the XML, trimmed down to the vitals:

<root>
    <menu>

    etc etc
    </menu>
    <perm>

    </perm>
</root>

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?
