There's a multiline CellRenderer in the Flash 8 documentation.

(Or just search "CellRenderer" in the Help panel.)

I made one based on this code and it worked fine, the only trick being setting the rowHeight of the component to the height of the largest row you need to display.

Really, CellRenderers are so annoying to put together if you don't fool around with DataGrids often, it would be a mammoth boon to have all the basic possible ones covered -- ComboBox, NumericStepper, RadioButton, CheckBox, etc.
