the reason why it's better to use Delegate instead of using a reference like :
var thisObj = this;
// Set a reference to "this"
mc.onRelease = function(){
thisObj.onRelease();
}
is because that way is actually a hack, using the activation object:

and I believe I read somewhere that it won't actually work in flash
player 9 (or maybe just Actionscript 3 it wont work...though i did
find some mention of it in the flex docs:
