Try this. Drop your scrollpane on the stage, select it and Press F8 to put it into a Movieclip symbol. Name the scrollpane instance inside that movieclip something short and easy like sp.
Then, set up the linkage on that movieclip and attach it instead of the scrollpane and target the scrollpane inside that movieclip. See if that works.
