Thanks so much for your insight here -- it was indeed correct that the radio buttons were being triggered after the onclick handler. Your script does also work -- thanks!
I had found my script at: http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_15174 Which is pretty old, but since I was trying to export to an older flash format I thought it should work.
