Yeah, you'll need a yahoo account in order to sign up for the FlexCoders list.

It is the place to be in regards to Flex.
There's Adobe people there monitoring the list and answering questions etc..

I've been on yahoo lists for years and have helped moderating a few in the past 
and never had any issues with yahoogroups.
