André, You can drag the various parts of the Flash application to all different sizes and locations, as well as move menus and coding areas around too. If you want to see more of your stage you can zoom in and out with the magnifying tool, or minimize windows you aren't using.
Otherwise if you still need more space, I'd suggest adding another monitor. I work with all my code and library items on a monitor on the left, and my timeline, tools, and stage on another monitor to the right. This allows me to keep my coding tools separate from my drawing/designing tools. If this isn't what you are looking for, please elaborate on what you mean by 'bigger work area'.
