Hm. Can't think of anything obvious. Worth checking/recompiling all involved movies (shared libraries as well), that's all.

bingo! there's an import statement in my submovie and in the container movie. i removed it from my submovie and recompiled both swfs but it's still not showing my updated trace statements. am i missing something? thanks!!
