This:

...should be:
theClip.txt.htmlText = xmlNode.firstChild.firstChild;
Better:
theClip.txt.htmlText =
xmlNode.firstChild.firstChild.nodeValue;
Even better:
theClip.txt.htmlText =
xmlNode.firstChild.childNodes.join("");
