As it turns out, this seems to be a problem with every browser that uses embed (which is all of them but IE) on Windows and on Mac OS X.
Just an update. To fix it, I've switched to using opaque instead of transparent, but that is not quite optimal. I'll let you know if I find something that fixes it better.
