i am using arial and i am successful in typing into a textfield

Ok, then are you on Windows? Using Arial won't do it--you have to use
"Arial Unicode MS". Regular Arial just has the ANSI character set,
which is basically most Western European languages.

Not really. Arial *is* unicode and has many different ranges, not only
ANSI. I think he doesn't have Chinese and Japanese glyphs, but it does
have extended latin and Cyrillic glyphs, for example.

The font families that come with windows - Arial, Verdana, others - are pretty much the most complete Unicode fonts one can find, even if some specialized ranges (eastern alphabets) aren't featured.
