I've experienced this before. It has to do with the some access_tokens or users (not all) retrieved from FB using IE. If you try it with the access_token that is provided when you log into developers.facebook.com it seems to work. I submitted a bug for this a while ago though I don't think I ever got a response from FB.
I ended up having to use the FB JavaScript API and interface with Flash that way. Ugh I know, but it worked.
