What version of a flashrom are you trying to use? Ideally, you need to clone the latest flashrom sources, then build them according to the instructions from a flashrom's wiki. That's because the flashrom versions, which could be found as a prebuilt package at various repositories, could be really outdated and lack a support for some important chips.
