Regarding your problem, I don't think it is IME related. A locked region would already make trouble during the initial read. There are likely additional protections by your BIOS in effect. A full log might give us more information. If you append `-o logfile.txt` to your command that logfile would get written. For the moment I suggest you to try to write a backup back if you made one. It's possible that flashrom didn't write anything, but we don't know.
