I had the same initial association and couldn't figure out why unless fldigi was functioning as a general-purpose modem using the KISS command set. > I suggest you change the verbiage to "Simple UI" or something like that. Agreed. OTOH, it might be cool to run HF packet over better CODECs than FSK. I would love to see HF packet over something like DominoEX. Think of it as FLARQ on steroids.
