It seems that you want "Line 1 (Virtual Audio Cable)" from the MME menu,
for both input and output.  Can you get it to work with either 44.1 or
48 KHz?

Changing to "File I/O" and back reopens the streams but shouldn't change
anything else.  Yes, I should have remembered that both DirectSound and
MME report 44100 as the native sample rate.

I have no way of assessing how well VAC emulates a DirectSound audio
device... but I do recall that Flex recommends MME with VAC(?)
