I suspect than in both cases you are in the wrong sideband. The RSID decoder expects that fldigi's idea of the current sideband is also the actual rig sideband, which is normally true. However, in XMLRPC/norig modes, you can be decoding audio received in USB mode by the rig, but with fldigi's rig mode set to LSB (e.g. via the menu under the frequency display).
