Olivia problems noticed in 3.20.0b9: - Sometimes on switching to Olivia from another mode a huge number appears in the audio frequency window below the waterfall. I have seen "-1127217" more than once. This is accompanied sometimes by an erratic waterfall display and "Sound Error...." messages. The waterfall cursor is in the expected place. Clicking in the waterfall corrects the frequency display, the erratic waterfall and "sound error" messages. (This might not be unique to Olivia, which is the mode I use most, but I have never seen it when switching to a different mode).
- The s/n estimation appears to be flawed. Although the numbers are as expected using an Rx filter similar to the FFT bandwidth, if a narrow Rx filter is switched in the reading changes, sometimes dramatically. For instance, with no signal present (just atmospheric noise on a "dead" band, with Rx AGC off to prevent noise density varying with IF bandwidth) and a 3600Hz FFT bandwidth, the following s/n readings are seen as a function of Rx IF bandwidth: 3000Hz -13dB 2000Hz -12dB 1000Hz -12dB 750Hz -11dB 500Hz Rises steadily til it limits at +30dB! Note the 500Hz figure! The s/n with a 500Hz DSP filter always settles at +30dB, regardless of actual s/n or indeed whether there's a signal there. The figures for wider bandwidths are approximate as they're averaged by eye. Is the out-of-band noise being used in the s/n estimate? The above figures do suggest that is the case. This behaviour is not seen in MFSK, which gives bandwidth-independent s/n estimates as expected. - 3.20.0b9 has crashed once on switching to Olivia mode (from MFSK32 to Olivia 500/16 in this case). I have seen similar crashes in earlier versions. Console output shown below. (Xubuntu V9.10, fully patched to 01April2010, portaudio, IC-7200 using internal USB): -- Peter G4VLC Crash on selecting Olivia: Caught signal 11 Aborting fldigi due to a fatal error.
