Tested Mandriva 2010.2 and Cooker, and Ububtu 10.10.
I have plenty of width and nothing is cut off.
FLTK not built with the correct options maybe?
Particularly:
--enable-shared --enable-threads --enable-xft
Check your distro and see what they used.

And since we are talking Ubuntu and if fldigi was built from source,
open a terminal ::
sudo apt-get build-dep fldigi
then recompile fldigi as the build-dep will bring in all the libs and
-dev to build from source and get the correct results.
