I have not run any RedHat products since the early days of Fedora when
their installation completely blew away my hard drive. I am rather like
an elephant when it comes to that sort of behavior. My preference is
for OS distributions based on Debian. I find Ubuntu to be the easiest
for the average ham to install and administer.
However, there are some users on the alpha team who run Fedora, Mandrake
and Suse, all of which use similar repositories. I am forwarding your
email to that list is the hopes that one might be able to assist you.

pacages are included there appears to be total of 6 packages that have been
affected. Efforts to download these libraries or their dependencies fail

I tried version 3.21.24 but have not been able to get it to find the
libraries. My initial intention was to add links until I captured all the
dependencies. I did a strings fldigi |grep portaudio and discovered it is
looking for port audio in /usr/local/lib Fedora 16 actually puts that file
in /usr/lib64. Performing an
ln -s /usr/lib64/libportaudio.so.2 libportaudio.so.2 in
/usr/local/lib did not solve the dependency issues. My next step will be
to hack the local LIBPATH on my system or attempt compiling from source.
Fedora 16 has given me mixed results. It loaded on one (newer) laptop just
fine. Gnome will not come up now on my desktop. On an older laptop it
failed to load properly and (fortunately) automatically reverted to Fedora
15. So I at least have a fall-back the will allow me to run fldigi. I am
now considering going over to CENTOS, at least on the desktop I use for HAM
radio.
