My experience is in Flash Builder and now in IntelliJ IDEA. I tried FDT and FlashDevelop long time ago so better don't talk about it. Only a few comments: FlashDevelop is only windows and the workflow is not optimized for teams, is more a "one-person-tool". FDT is based on the same eclipse platform, and maybe is better that Flash Builder, but until now I preferred the Adobe solution since they was the people behind the technology. Today maybe FDT and Flash Builder could be seen only by the quality, functionality and features of both tools.
Right now, I think the battle is between Flash Builder and IntelliJ. I have less experience with IntelliJ, and I see a great potential and a team very involved and communicative. Making improvements and tickets to make Flex development a first class citizen in the tool. I'm very impressed and I'm helping in that way since IntelliJ has a few things to implement or improve for people making advanced Flex development. For example things like extract RSLs or finish the flexmojos maven workflow (something that is not in Flash Builder). Flash Builder in the other hand seems a little stuck and due to the Adobe plans we should not expect to much about it. They let us know about the 5.0 version only for flash gamming, and 4.x to accomodate flex development. Latest 4.7 version seems to have many problems with workflows that corrupts workspace state and need some cumbersome manual user maintenance to get it to work again. This is the case when you use Git and switch branches with lots of divergences. The tool is not able to manage it. In the other hand the maven workflow through flex-mojos is only in intelliJ and never considered in Flash Builder. This is in my opinion one of the key points to go IntelliJ. But as I say, in some cases (like ours) we already need a bit more work in IntelliJ to be our official development tool. In the end, we should think that Adobe quit from the development space and IntelliJ took the torch, so you should expect a better tool in IntelliJ IDEA due to both company plans in the long term. 2013/1/2 Nick Tsitlakidis <ni...@perfectedz.com> > Never tried FDT but I love IntelliJ.
