b/c the assembly plugin is easier to deal with packaging up non-maven-artifact resources like images, themes, skins, styles, etc. that are not embedded in the swf. i can just create a .zip in the package phase, and then use the antrun plugin in the webapp project to copy it into a directory in the process-resources phases. set this up today -- works great.
