As an addendum to this, auto-expanding the ADL runtime from a .tar.gz doesn't work on Linux either. If you make a .zip file of the ADL runtime instead, it will unzip, but not recreate any symlinks that are in the zip (so you need to have made a stupid zip with duplicated files instead of symlinks)
