Well I have been working with several projects in the 10 <= x <= 60 Modules class and all of them are using reasonable amounts of memory. I think the problem is related to the amount of modules in one artifact ... but it's just a well educated guess.
I also haven't heard of a second maven-flex-plugin ... so I guess you're stuck with us ;-) It would probably be easy to track down where the memory is going, if I were to compile your project and listening to the build using JProfiler, but I doubt you could/would simply send it to me ;-) ... I guess fixing up an alternate dummy project will not reproduce the error.
