the only problem with that is that the flex app will be residing on a 
DIFFERENT web site from the main coldfusion application.

I guess what I'd have to do is have the callback to a javascript 
function on the page that passes the cookie value to a hidden iframe 
whose source is on the remote coldfusion server.. ie, just set the 
location of the iframe to something like 
www.somedomain.com/setcookie.cfm?value=12345 ..

The coldfusion app (which may someday be a flex app) requires 
registration and authentication, but I'd like to place this little flex 
app directly on client web sites so their clients can log in there and 
make a more seamless integration.

I suppose another solution would be for the flex app to be located on 
the coldfusion server and just embedded in an iframe on the client web 
site, and then I could just set the cookie with javascript...
