Being that you did it in Flash 8 I am assuming that you don't have CS3. I don't know of a way with Flash 8 but if you have access to CS3 or are thinking about updating Adobe has released the Flex Component Kit for Flash CS3 on Adobe Labs (http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flex_Component_Kit_for_Flash_CS3). This may be what you are looking for.
