Why does future matter here? If you are a programmer and someone willing to learn things always, moving to any technology should not be problem. Most importantly, be passionate for what you do or do whatever you are passionate about...
If you are just moving to Flex as an career option, I guess, you might ask the same questions after some year, if any other technology, God forbid, comes as better option :-) You don't have to be engineering student to learn programming or Flex... Increase the breadth and then depth (which would automatically happen once you find what you are passionate about).
