Yeah you can do this in Actionscript.
something like this
if(value==0)
chart_series.setStyle("itemRenderer", new
ClassFactory(mx.charts.renderers.CircleItemRenderer));
else
chart_series.setStyle("itemRenderer", new
ClassFactory(mx.charts.renderers.TriangleItemRenderer));
