I did check out POI but on a first glance it appeared like it had a high learning curve, so I ditched it :D What I need is for the user to upload his/her document onto the app and then they can edit from within the app. Kind of like a miniature version of google docs. So what I did was to utilize a software called print2flash (http://print2flash.com/) It can convert .doc, .xls, etc into swf and this can be displayed in flex. However it becomes non- editable. I'm using this software for now.. Maybe in time I will check out POI. I also bumped into open office api for doing this kind of thing. Since Open office is really popular, I think it might be good, although I'm not sure..
