why r u using OuterDocument here?
btnEdit.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function(e:MouseEvent):void{
var comp:component = new component ();
PopUpManager.addPopUp(comp,this,false);
PopUpManager.centerPopUp(comp);
});
this should work fine for u..
