its not abt the jasper report. Its a problem across all the reporting tool. when you create a report and export it in a excel generally the format get scatter. some cell get widen, some empty columns get created and so on. the list is really long :)
the general solution to this is first try to format your report and if that don't of help then you need to create a different report just for excel.
