I figured how to fix this problem quite easily.

What I did was extended the AdvancedDataGridColumnGroup and then put in some 
variables into my new object.

On Header release, I get my custom AdvancedDataGridColumnGroup and I can 
read the values from that.
( ( event.itemRenderer as AdvancedDataGridHeaderRenderer ).data as 
ILocationColumn ).location

Quite a simple fix.
