For a moment i was having an "Doh!" moment, but i checked and fortunately didn't make that mistake. Which reminds me that my editor ( Eclipse ) really neeeds Actionscript syntax highlighting or even code assisting..oh well.. anyway, i got it sort of working by just wrapping this up in a function called on initialize and attaching it directly to _root. Yeah, ugly but works. I will give it another shot tomorrow... 1:15am here in Amsterdam. Looking forward to your book, reckon it'll be great.
