Oh ya totally. In the context of learning, that's what the book helps you do. Some parameters being added or dropped won't change the core principles and concepts. You've got your navigators, containers, controls, models, remote objects, web services, etc... All that is pretty much the same.
Macromedia has a collection of good articles and tutorials online... but if you really want to kick start the learning process the book will be a big help.
