What I have done is enclosed the entire application within a Vbox of width = 
"100%" and 
height = "100%' and named it something like "appContainer". When creating the 
title 
window you can either pass it a refference to the parent application, or I 
believe just using 
parentApplication.appContainer works as well. On Creation Complete of the 
titlewindow 
you can call a function that says:

parentComponent.appContainer.enabled = false;

....that will give you the effect you are looking for.
