Yep, this looks like some of the rendering code could be improved on our end.  If you want to file a bug at http://www.macromedia.com/go/wish with this info that’d be great.  We are looking into seeing if we can support fixed columns in the future but right now it may be difficult.  The way people have done it in the past is by actually creating two datagrids, turning the vScrollPolicy of the first one off, and then placing them right next to each other.
