I asked a question about this on the list at the week-end and didn't get a response, so I'm assuming that either no-one is using a schema based editor to validate MXML, or that is the only problem.
Just thought I'd give you a heads-up anyhow.

Hi everyone,
Most of the people using Eclipse for their MXML authoring are using OxygenXML plugin :

But oxygen XML editor is expensive ($48/$128) and if you're into J2EE development, you might already have MyEclipse ($30/year) :
http://www.myeclipseide.com/
To configure MyEclipse XML editor for MXML: - Windows > Preferences > Workbench > File Associations, - select or add ".mxml" and associate it to MyEclipse XML Editor.
To add tag insight for MXML:
- Windows > Preferences > MyEclipse > Editors > XML > XML Catalog,
- select User Specific Entries and New...,
- enter URI= file:/C:/Flex/extras/schema/mxml.xsd (located inside your Flex installation folder),
- enter Key Type= Namespace Name
- enter Key= http://www.macromedia.com/2003/mxml
MyEclipse is a great addition to Eclipse, it includes plenty of plugins for J2EE and web development:
JSP Editor <http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-52.html>,
WYSIWYG Editor <http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-54.html>,
Struts Modeler <http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-55.html>,
JSF Editor <http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-56.html>,
XML Editor <http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-53.html>,
CSS Editor,
JavaScript Editor,
XDoclet Support <http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-42.html>,
Database Explorer <http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-60.html>,
SQL Editor <http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-62.html>,
OR Tools - Hibernate <http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-61.html>,
Application Server Connectors <http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-40.html> ...
(compared to OxygenXML, you get much more for less $...)
The missing editor is an AS2.0 editor, but it looks like there is one under development on SourceForge:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/aseclipseplugin/ (pre-alpha, I've not tested it yet)
For the moment, you can also replace the default Javascript Editor for ".as" files to use MyEclipse Javascript Editor instead.
So now, I finally have on single and great IDE for Flex, ColdFusion (with CFEclipse) and Java development!
