Have you tried using the NetConnectionDebugger that we included in the extras folder of your Flex install?  Maybe there’s a fault coming back?  Or maybe it’s just slow?  I think we have instructions for how to use the NCD in the docs.  Another thing you could do is try to use a packet sniffer to see what the traffic looks like between your computer and and your office.  I use Ethereal which is pretty good, but you do need to be aware that it doesn’t sniff packets if you’re using a wireless network (and I’m not sure if it is accurate when using VPN).  Finally there is the sniffer executable that comes with JRun or Apache Axis.  Rather than sniffing the packets directly it allows you to use it as an intermediary and will forward on your packets.  This is a nice solution for when you’re using a wireless card or VPN.  There may be info on sniffer in our docs (I don’t remember if it comes with the install of Flex).

I have to imagine that there is something in the middle that is cutting things off.  These are some ways of seeing if you can actually see the cutoff happen.  Often a firewall is to blame, butsince the request is making it through to the server it does sound weird.

Subject: [flexcoders] BusyCursor and Remote Object

Hi

I have experienced some irregular issues when calling remote objects.

Under most of the situations, the call to remote objects is normal and that the cursor stays normal.

However, when I test the app at home, using boardband, sometimes, not always, the remote objects seems not able to return records (the query is the same all the time; for instance, I start my app to get stock data of dec 31, 2004), and the busy cursor stays the look as the hourglass.
I am fine when I access the data-center-hosted version of our application, never have this same exp.

However, when I access at home to a development server at the office (office use 64K uplink only), this can be reproduced quite easily.

This appears that the remote object made the request and the request never came back.
By the way, from the log I have on the java side, the java has been executed. Seems like there is something related to the AMF gateway/remote object.

Anyone got similar experience or have a solution or work around?

Best Regards,

Wilfred LEUNG
