Also, there are situations where the mx.core.Application.application
style reference does not work with binding. If you plan to bind to a
reference, you should pass it in to the component.

Is there a concept of _global in Flex? I don't think so.

You're really passing only object _references_ around. It's not that
bad.

You can store global data in your Application and access the application

object using Application.application or UIObject.parentApplication.
