Matt, IE shows exactly the same behaviour. Still, I have no clue why this is happening. As a workaround I'll try to get it running by bypassing the proxy.

Dustin, since you're hitting localhost right now maybe try setting useProxy="false" on the WebService and just make sure that you don't run into similar problems when not going through our proxy (I don't think you'll need crossdomain.xml if both the Flex server and IIS are on the same machine despite them being on different ports, but I might be wrong). Also Dirk, maybe try using IE and see if there's any chance that makes a difference (before changing the proxysetting), I can't imagine it will but who knows, maybe the network libraryis sending an extra null character or whatever. I realize this isn't much help but since I haven't seen these problems myself I don't have any great suggestions.
