Remove the click="..." from your .mxml file and have your .as file to setup the listener for the click event on the button.
In my way of thinking, the .mxml file describes the layout of the application and the .as file describes the behaviour of the application. Only the .as file knows about the objects being displayed, but the .mxml file has no references to the inner workings of the .as file.
