Well and then there's the Microsoft XAML initiative too. And as for an IDE, IBM has built one for Laszlo

The main thing for me is, and why I think Flex will be successful:
1) Community/Support. I'm very appreciative of the Flex community. All the folks from Macromedia, i2, Jesse, Manish, Dirk, Brandon, etc... If I have to spend all my time hacking away at things till I eventually figure it out, it will kill my productivity. Lots of Blogs going on, sites like www.CFlex.net and www.FlexAuthority.com, etc... It's all good stuff!
2) The Flash player wins in the penetration dept. There is already a massive collection ofknowledge regarding ActionScript, and Flash out there. This means there are skills from non Flex developers that can be leveraged immediately.
3) Because of #2, using technology from the same company is an obvious benefit. The needs of Flex developers I hope will influence the future direction of the Flash player.

I'm really interested in people's thoughts here.
So far I have done a bunch of things using Flex and it's been really
easy and quick for Rapid Prototyping, etc. I think that's mostly
thanks to Flex Builder though. Lazlo doesn't have an equivalent to
Flex Builder which I think is a huge draw back to it's adoption.
However Flex's pricing and license model is a giant drawback as well.
From what I have seen it's seems that Lazlo will be eaisier to
"customize" the UI elements, although admittedly I haven't ventured
thatfar into custom UI with Flex beyond CSS.
Other thoughts?
